I’ve had the honor of capturing EVERY big life event for Caitlyn since high school!! I love love LOVE to build these types of relationships with my clients. I’m here for the long haul, baby! These unique engagement photos in Missouri were a freakin blast – Caitlyn and her fiance Chase are so dang cute!
But first, some super sweet words from Caitlyn. This melted my heart!!!
“Taking a picture is one thing, but “truly being captured” behind the lens is another.
Melissa has captured every life event all the way from my senior year of high school to my wedding day, plus all the family pictures in between. If you want to feel beautiful and encouraged your whole session or wedding day, Mel is your girl.
She’s always quick to respond to any questions you may have and never afraid to throw in her creative ideas and detailed input. My family and I will never use another photographer!”

Cotton Fields in Bernie, Missouri
I was so excited about the location of this unique engagement photoshoot. Not only is there nothing more southern and perfect in the fall, but the location totally had meaning.
We took these photos in Bernie, Missouri on Caitlyn’s family property! This is a little town in southern Missouri. These cotton fields belong to her family, which gives these photos just a little added OOMPH in the feelings department. I love when my couples intentionally choose a meaningful location!
Fun Engagement Photo Outfits
Looking bomb af for your engagement session doesn’t need to be hard! I want you to be able to look back at all your photos and fall in love with these precious moments foreverrrrr. And that means not regretting an outfit choice!
Here are some of my top tips on what to wear for your engagement session:
- Look and feel like yourself!
- Mind your colors!
- Keep patterns simple!
- Bring props (+pups)!
Caitlyn + Chase had two different outfits for their unique engagement photos and both of them were flawless!! I love the added texture from this velvet dress Caitlyn wore while in the cotton fields. And the red is a perfect pop of color against the neutral background!
Don’t even get me started on the open back. So. Cute. And Caitlyn threw on a hat with both of her outfits which added some dimension and diversity to the photos! You truly can’t go wrong using a hat as a prop.
Chase wore a patterned jacket which coordinated superrrr nicely since Caitlyn’s dress was solid. And while her dress was a bold color, Chase’s jacket was a nice, cool blue.
Caitlyn’s next outfit was a bridal white, lacey two-piece. The long skirt was perfect for the warm Missouri breeze as they frollicked around the golden wheat fields! Caitlyn’s outfit is from Magnolia Boutique and I love the big dreamcatcher earrings she paired with it. Chase wore a simple blue polo shirt which was a nice pop of color against her lacey, white outfit.
Unique Engagement Photo Props
Caitlyn had a bouquet of flowers, which was a perfect prop for some Missouri farm pics. They also played around with the coolest car at her grandparent’s house right at sunset. And honestly, this was so much fun!
Sparklers are always a really fun prop that create some of the prettiest pictures! And what better way to celebrate your engagement than some (safe) fireworks, am I right??
We ended this shoot with shotgunning beer, gone not sooo perfectly haha! But it was still so fun and just reminded me of how much I love capturing real, authentic moments. It’s the little things like this that make fun engagement photos so special!!
Talk about a fun shoot! Cheers to all those “down for anything” clients like Caitlyn + Chase! You complete me!
